Lernix AI upgraded its analysis engine, the AI that reads your study materials and writes your Smart Notes. It now runs on a more advanced model that keeps track of details across long PDFs and lecture recordings far better and reads charts and figures more accurately.
The upgrade went live for every account on October 27, 2026, across iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web. It runs on our servers, so you do not need to update the app.
Why we upgraded the notes
Every study tool in Lernix AI starts from the Smart Note.
- You add a material: a PDF or document, a lecture recording, a YouTube link, photos of pages or slides, or pasted text.
- The analysis engine reads all of it and writes a Smart Note: an overview, sections with the key points marked, tables where a comparison helps, key takeaways, and a conclusion.
- Everything else is built from that note: flashcards, quizzes, the mind map, the Visual Note, and the answers you get from Ask AI.
So the note is the foundation. Ask AI answers from the notes of the material you have open, which means a detail the note gets wrong can show up again in the chat, on a flashcard, or in a quiz question. Ask AI got its own upgrade on October 16 (see the smarter Ask AI tutor). This upgrade improves the step everything else depends on.
What got better in analysis
- Long material holds together. On a long-context test that asks the model to pick out specific details from a book-length text full of similar passages, the new engine scores more than twice as high. That is the skill a 200-page course pack, a full lecture recording, or a long YouTube lecture puts to work.
- Sharper chart and figure reading. Reasoning about charts and figures in images improved by 34%. Photos of slides, graphs, diagrams, and textbook pages rely on this.
- Study materials built on the new engine. Flashcards, quizzes, and mind maps you generate from now on use it, including from notes you made before the upgrade. So do Smart Note translations.
The upgrade by the numbers
| Measure | Improvement | Where it shows up |
|---|---|---|
| Picking out specific details across a book-length text | More than 2× | Long PDFs, lecture recordings, YouTube lectures |
| Reasoning about charts and figures in images | +34% | Photos, slides, scanned pages, figures in PDFs |
These figures come from the model developer’s published benchmark results, each run under its own test settings. They were not measured inside Lernix, so how much you notice depends on your material.
Which materials benefit most
| Material | What the upgrade helps with |
|---|---|
| A long PDF, such as a textbook chapter or course pack | Keeping track of details all the way through, not just in the first chapters, and telling similar definitions apart |
| A full lecture recording | Holding on to points from the second half of a long lecture |
| A long YouTube lecture | The same long-context gain, applied to the video’s transcript |
| Photos of slides, graphs, or textbook figures | Reading trends, labels, and values in charts more accurately |
| A short text or a single page | A smaller difference, because short material was already easy to cover |
What stays the same
- Your existing notes. Notes you already made stay exactly as they are. New notes come from the upgraded engine.
- The note format. Smart Notes keep the same layout: overview, sections, tables, key takeaways, and conclusion.
- Your language. Pick any of the 34 study languages before you tap Generate. See choosing your study language before you generate.
- Visual Notes. The Visual Note is still drawn from your Smart Note with the same image model as before.
- Your plan. The free allowance and Premium are unchanged. See pricing.
Still check your notes
A better engine is still not infallible.
- Check numbers, dates, and names against your source before an exam, especially in long or dense material.
- Edit what is wrong. You can edit a Smart Note directly, so a mistake does not stay in your notes.
- Turn notes into practice. Notes help you understand. Flashcards and quizzes help you remember. See active recall and spaced repetition with AI flashcards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to update the app to get the upgraded Smart Notes?
No, you do not need to update the app. The Lernix AI analysis upgrade runs on our servers, so new Smart Notes on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web already use it.
Will my existing notes change?
No. Notes you created before October 27, 2026 stay as they are. New notes, and flashcards, quizzes, or mind maps you generate from now on, use the upgraded engine.
Is this the same upgrade as the Ask AI upgrade?
No. Ask AI, the tutor chat, was upgraded on October 16, 2026. This upgrade, live on October 27, 2026, covers analysis: Smart Notes, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, and Smart Note translation.
Does the upgrade cost more?
No, the Lernix AI analysis upgrade does not change what you pay. Your free allowance and Premium plan are the same as before.
Which AI model does Lernix AI use for notes?
Lernix AI does not publish the name of the model behind its notes. We choose it for how accurately it turns study material into notes and upgrade when a better option is ready.
